About this deal

Maxwell, like the Penrose and Mobius, requires power as it is an active headset on all connection types. Like those headsets, Maxwell utilizes an internal DSP and houses a balanced amplifier for each driver. We suggest common sense in what you plug the Maxwell into with a 3.5mm/aux cable. If you use an amplifier and don’t set the volume accordingly, you can overcharge the circuitry inside the headset. It is highly recommended you either bypass using amplifiers, or set the volume very low and adjust up until you achieve a good balance between the Maxwell’s volume control, and your source gear. Using external amplifiers may be detrimental to sound quality and potentially add more noise and distortion. With up to 80 hours battery life, the Maxwell’s last twice as long as many rivals. What’s more, a full recharge via USB-C takes just 2 hours, with 25% charge available in just 20 minutes. They sound colder, more neutral, and closer to analytics. This Maxwell is much more fun sounding, softer, and more prone to sounding a tad warm and musical. But there’s more to gaming headsets than being really, really... really ridiculously great-sounding. (A lot more, actually.) Likewise, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt sounded clear and detailed in testing, with strong directional imaging thanks to the PlayStation 5’s spatial audio processing. During a feast, the sounds of chatter, music, and flames remained distinct. The position of each nearby guest was discernible as the camera panned, with the audio panning accurately with it.

Unsurprisingly, the sound quality on the Audeze Maxwell is fantastic. Just a step below a true audiophile performance, it delivers detailed, articulate highs, rich mids, extended low end, and a great immersive soundstage. It’s clear and detailed with lots of headroom, making games like Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Cyberpunk 2077, and Hogwarts Legacy incredibly immersive to play.April 4th:Testing started. We noticed phase mismatch present in our unit and that non-Bluetooth wireless latency was higher than expected. However, these flaws didn't qualify the unit as broken—the Maxwell performed very well in most other tests. If a product doesn't perform as it should but isn't clearly broken, we refer to the out-of-spec policy. It's the manufacturer's responsibility to define what is out of spec for their products as they're the ones who know how their products should perform. Either version is universally compatible using the 3.5mm connection. In low-latency wireless mode or via USB, due to differing hardware, firmware, and licensing requirements, the PlayStation version will not work on Xbox. Xbox version on PlayStation via the USB dongle is not officially supported and may not work. Using the Xbox version on PS via wired USB, there may be some limitations in volume control and other possible loss of functionality. We recommend use of the properly supported version for each console.

The Maxwell is wider than tall, with good depth. So, their shapes are very different. I also find the Maxwell to pinpoint sounds a fair bit better than the T5, despite that T5 being more expensive. The bass is boomy when it needs to be and the sub-bass is colossal. Gunshots, explosions & footsteps are more realistic than ever before. There are actual textural details that can be heard (and felt!) with said impacts, explosions and things such as your character interacting with inanimate objects. The Audeze Maxwell comes in two console-specific variants: Xbox and PlayStation. The manufacturer states in their FAQ section that Xbox variant isn't officially supported on this console, which can result in 'some limitations in volume control and other possible loss of functionality'. They also recommend that you use the correct variant with each console. Please note we do not officially endorse this product, so your mileage may vary. Other options may exist online. In terms of chipset improvements, the Maxwell uses a newer more powerful dedicated DAC/AMP chip. The DSP is also much more powerful compared to Penrose. This gives Maxwell much larger dynamic range and a lower noise floor compared to Mobius and Penrose.

We've added a comparison between these headphones and the Logitech G PRO X 2 LIGHTSPEED Wireless in Comfort. People used to complain about the poor range of the wireless signal for the Penrose. Let’s just say the Maxwell has eliminatedany lingering issues here. If my eyes were good enough, I am pretty sure I could play my Playstation from my neighbours house and the sound would still be lossless. The connection is 100% stable via dongle or bluetooth. With capabilities for Bluetooth 5.3 as well as LE Audio, LC3plus, LDAC codecs, it all but guarantees these headphones are going to be viable for years to come. Mic: 10/10 Interestingly, the imaging on the Maxwell also exceeds the size of the older Beyerdynamic T5 3rd Generation, which I reviewed here if you are interested in reading more about that. The Beyerdynamic feels like a perfect sphere, with equal height, width depth, classifying itself as one of the most coherent standard models in existence in shape. We've converted this review to Test Bench 1.6 , which updates how we measure latency. We've updated and renamed the following test groups: Wired Connection, Bluetooth Connection, and Wireless Connection (Dongle). We've also added new codec latency measurements and provided an audio sample of recorded latency.Maxwell will work with existing Dolby Atmos licenses. If it was previously enabled on PC, you can continue using it for Maxwell as well. The Maxwell's excellent audio profile also put on a strong showing while I played Fortnite. I could easily tell what direction distant gunfire came from without looking at the audio markers on the game’s compass. The actual mixing credit goes mostly to Sony for its Tempest 3D processing, but the effect wouldn’t work nearly as well if the Maxwell didn’t sound so balanced and detailed. There are some questionable design choices but at least they look great from a visual point of view. But is it comfy? Yes, the clamp pressure is fine, and the pads are lovely, so the experience is good for a time until you start to feel weight fatigue. Otherwise, the comfort is good. Famed for their powerful, detailed sound, Audeze’s Planar Magnetic headphones have stormed the high-end market. Now available in their latest gaming headphones, the Maxwell Xbox is Audeze’s answer to studio quality sound, on your Xbox.
